Book Fair 2018: Georgian Theatre – Made by Characters
Tue. 02. — Fri. 12.10.2018
Once again, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm plays host to the Frankfurt Book Fair’s Guest of Honour. This fall, we are happy to welcome Georgia and its theatre program. Theatre has always played an important role in Georgia; it’s a lifestyle, says theatre maker Ekaterina Mazmishvili. From the establishment of the first theatre company in the 18th century and the artistic resistance movements of the 20th century communist era up to the entirely new, emerging theatre scene of the post-Soviet 1990’s, theatre has always provided important impulses. The pieces selected to be presented at Mousonturm include large productions from Georgia’s State Theatre, as well as productions from the young independent theatre scene, New Drama, as well as experimental performances often dealing with Georgia’s history and the country’s 25 years of independence. The curator for this cross-section of Georgia’s contemporary theatre scene was Ekaterina Mazmishvili, artistic and managing director of the Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre and the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre.
