Tanzfestival Rhine-Main
Sun. 30.10. — Sun. 13.11.2016

in Frankfurt and Darmstadt

A dance festival for the region! This year’s record attendance of the German Dance Platform in March truly proved that Frankfurt Rhein-Main has the most enthusiastic audiences for dance in Germany. This fall the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main once again sets visitors and spectators from across the region in motion as it connects the dance cities of Darmstadt and Frankfurt. This first edition kicks off a yearly celebration of dance. The festival will take place in Frankfurt every year, while alternating between Darmstadt and Wiesbaden every other year. This year’s edition opens with Spiegelungen (30 Oct), a new triple bill by the Hessische Staatsballett featuring Wayne McGregor’s piece Infra the first time in Germany – in addition to Alexander Ekman’s acclaimed choreography Left Right Left and a new world premiere by the head of the company Tim Plegge. The first week of the festival includes Puppets (6 & 7 Nov) by Paula Rosolen, a choreographic exploration of puppeteers’ movements, OCD Love (4 Nov) by internationally acclaimed choreographer Sharon Eyal and a double bill (6 Nov) by the Candoco Dance Company, one of the best known inclusive dance companies in Europe, including a new edition of Trisha Brown’s classic dance piece Set and Reset and Beheld by Alexander Whitley. Like a magnifying glass, the festival gives a compact impression of the manifold activities that the Hessische Staatsballett and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm have set out to tackle since January 2016 by establishing the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main. The audience is invited to discover a wide range of dance forms and choreography and to find new answers to the questions: who is a dancer? And what makes us dance?

All pieces of the Rhein-Main dance festival, a project of Hessian Staatsballett and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, are made possible by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain and are sponsored by the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and the Foundation Alliance [Aventis Foundation, BHF-BANK Foundation, Crespo Foundation, Dr. Marschner Foundation, Polytechnic Society Foundation].
