"EXIT (working title)" is a lecture-performance with ghosts for a naked trans-body and the found 'lighting design' of the exit lights of different theatre architectures. The exit lights as theatrical objet trouvé, are not just an institutional marker which we teach ourselves to ignore like a blind spot at the centre of our vision, overriding it to complete the art illusion. They form the skeleton of safety choreographies, which in these times of radicalisation and civil unease are becoming more and more monumental and helpless. What can a queer body, one that spookily changes and confounds identities, do to oppose today's binary constraints which encompass it? In words, dances, songs it rubs up against this visual 'noise' in which artistic activity is always placed in the theatre and becomes the passageway of yesterday's and today's emergency exit ideologists or exorcists: Was General Gert Valeska crying out for a national security commission of land.
EXIT (working title) plays with the potential of a disobedient desire that could (perhaps) overthrow the pictogram world of boxes and arrows in a visionary dance, regulated in a bitter-sweet way by the melting of chocolate over a light bulb.
