True love, wild action and provocative dystopias: The 23rd Nippon Connection Film Festival offers one-time big screen cinema experiences, intriguing talks with guests from Japan, and a varied supporting program. For six days in summer, the Japanese Film Festival presents more than 100 current short and feature-length films across all genres, from the latest blockbusters and anime to independent and arthouse films as well as documentaries. This year’s thematic focus “Cityscapes And Countryside” explores contrasting lives in Japan, with futuristic megacities next to rural regions where time seems to have stopped. Many filmmakers will travel to Frankfurt from Japan to talk to the audience. Concerts, performances, lectures, interactive workshops, and a wide range of culinary specialties complement the program.
