Aesthetic Justice

Mousonturm

Discussion

What kind of relationship exists between art and law? Can aesthetic justice have an influence on proceedings in a court of law? Is artistic evidence recognized as evidence by a judge? What qualities can aesthetic justice contribute that juridical justice cannot take into account?

A court is a place where justice is considered, performed and translated into decisions. But what if there is no court to turn to? When life is so bare that no legal institution can do it justice, and where the mere desire to survive could be criminalized? Artist Janez Janša opens a discussion on the agency of artistic practice on social and political imaginaries, and the notion of responsibility at stake.
