Aeschylusan Cosmology. Regarding the Horizon in the Prometheus Fragment – Inaugural Lecture

Mousonturm Saal

Vortrag/Theater

In the 18th and 19th century, Prometheus was stylized into a symbol of humankind, who rebelled against the tyranny of paternal gods and as a free being, forged ahead towards personal fulfilment and perfection. This anthropocentric point of view is based on substantial abbreviations of the Aeschylusan fragment: in it humanity presents itself as beings surrounded by other heterogeneous, animated and ostensibly inanimate powers and creatures. Ulrike Haß, Prof. em. for Theatre Studies (Bochum), is taking up the position of senior professor for Theatre Studies at the Goethe University this summer 2017. Her publications include: “Das Drama des Sehens” (“The Drama of Seeing – 2005) and “Mark Lammert. Bühnen Räume Spaces” (“Mark Lammert. Stages Rooms Spaces” – 2013).
