Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s disturbing visions of hell on earth, author Dimitri Verhulst, director Kris Verdonck, composer Vasco Mendonça, the Amsterdam Asko| Schönberg Ensemble and the Ghent LOD muziektheater stage an acoustically, poetically and visually stunning opera. BOSCH BEACH seeks out the false paradises of today: two men and a woman spend their vacation in South Europe protected by the cocoon of their holiday club. They seduce one another, write postcards and drink cocktails in the morning to counteract the hangover of the day before. The next polonaise or further coktails help ward off existential crises. Sunbathing on the beach, while refugees wash up on shore. BOSCH BEACH plays with the ambiguity of this place, dealing with questions of unbearable guilt and moral responsibility.
