Portuguese artist duo Jonas & Lander present “Coin Operated”, an extraordinary human-horse performance. In this interactive installation, visitors are invited to buy actions with coins and to cause the two rodeo machines, on which the performers Jonas Lopes and Lander Patrick are lying, to gallop. During the course of these actions, the intrinsic relationship between animal subjugation, trade and money is explored. The coins serve as a lever that reveals each horse’s narrative. The scene communicates clearly: Jonas & Lander will not move unless the audience makes the horses gallop.
