Die Wiederholung. Histoire(s) du théâtre (I)

Mousonturm Saal

Theater

One night in April 2012, Ihsane Jarfi got into the car with a group of young men in front of a gay club in the Belgian city of Liège. He was then beaten half-dead over hours and left to die naked at the edge of a forest: two weeks later, he was only accidently found by a person strolling by. The brutal crime shocked the entire city. Multiple award-winning Swiss director Milo Rau has reconstructed the case and the social environments of perpetrators and victim in an impressively complex theatre piece with four actors, a dog sitter and a warehouse worker from Liège. He thereby focuses both on the city itself, along with the decline of its metal industry, as well as questioning – as the start of the series “Histoire(s) du theatre” – the representation of violence on stage and our ambivalent relationship towards it as spectators.
