Empirical are currently the great white hope of British jazz. In their original compositions, these four emerging new stars combine classical jazz with modern, sometime very smooth rhythms into a kind of post Bop.

Role models such as Andrew Hill, Eric Dolphy, Wayne Shorter or Branford Marsalis are clearly audible, but the quartet manages to give these influences a unique sound in improvisation. They don’t deny their role models, but still manage to sound contemporary and vibrant.

Tom Farmer (bass), Lewis Wright (vibraphone), Nathaniel Facey (saxophone), Shaney Forbes (drums)
