FIGURA

Performance

In FIGURA, five Ensemble Modern musicians present a broad range of 20th and 21st-century works through performative solo pieces: small pieces and miniatures, some of them highly virtuosic, featuring both acoustic and electronic sound sources. The works rang from “classics” of modern music, such as Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s “Four Short Studies for Cello” to solo works by John Adams and Matthias Pintscher, and all the way to the latest works by Klaus Burger and Orm Finnendahl. All these take the full measure of the instruments’ wildly different expressive possibilities. Thus, the performances by the Ensemble Modern soloists open up multiple perspectives on different varieties of contemporary music and its development.
