NURAN DAVID CALIS received a commission from the Frankfurt Positions 2017 to write a new play that will be directed and premiered by the Deutsche Theater Berlin. The author, theatre and film-director was born in Bielefeld in 1976. Initially he made short films and video clips for Hip Hop bands. His first play Dog Eat Dog was premiered in 2003 and he was invited to the Authors Theater Days at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. He has received several awards for his writings. For his production of Schiller’s Robbers in 2006 he received the Viennese Theatre Nestroy Prize in the category Best up-and-coming stage director. His much-lauded reworking of Wedekind’s Frühlings Erwachen! – premiered at the Schauspiel Hannover in 2007 – was filmed for the ZDF television channel in 2010. In 2006, he made the feature film Meine Mutter, mein Bruder und ich, for which he also wrote the screenplay. In 2011 he published the novel Der Mond ist unsere Sonne. NURAN DAVID CALIS works regularly for theatres in Bochum, Stuttgart and Berlin.
