Discussion

EISA JOCSON is a contemporary dance choreographer from the Philippines. As a visual artist and ballet dancer, she won her first pole dance competition in Manila in 2010. Jocson examines the dancing body’s forms of work and representation in the service industry. She reveals body images, the politics of seduction and social mobility in the Philippines. Her solo works have been shown at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, Beurrschouwburg, Brussels, Zürcher Theaterspektakel, Tanzquartier Wien and Dampfzentrale Bern. Her choreography Happyland, which she is currently developing for the Frankfurter Positionen, takes on many perspectives to research society’s way of working towards happiness and the production of fantasy in the context of a globalized entertainment industry.
