A communal oasis, a utopian island, a temporary autonomous zone – open daily and non-stop from 11 am – 12 pm! MAMAZA, our choreographer collective in residency, rings in the New Year by transforming the Mousonturm theatre space into an exotic community garden. The central protagonists of the four-day duration choreography are the innumerable potted plants of all species, sizes and forms. They all come from the private apartments and workspaces of Frankfurt citizens, who have donated their darlings for the run of the project. For this botanical general assembly, MAMAZA has created a unique choreographic biotope together with students of the Städelschule architecture class. Permanent rearrangement, mutating light and sound conditions and mood raising events throughout the entire day transform the Mousonturm stage into a gathering place for plants and people; a mobile, malleable free space, to be inhabited, shared and dreamed up together. You are welcome to bring a potted plant of your own with you as a loan. This saves you the cost of a ticket and allows you and your plant to become part of the Garden State.

MAMAZA steht für Ioannis Mandafounis, Fabrice Mazliah und May Zarhy. 2007 begann die enge Zusammenarbeit der drei Choreografen und Tänzer, die alle in verschiedenen Kontexten der Forsythe Company verbunden sind. In ihren Arbeiten kreieren MAMAZA einen choreografischen Raum, der die Spannung zwischen dem visuellen Bild und dem physischen Befinden, das es im Zuschauer erzeugt, in Frage stellt. Ihre Zusammenarbeit sieht das Kollektiv nicht als künstlerischen Kompromiss, sondern im kontinuierlichen Austausch, Befragen und Erproben vielmehr als Rückbesinnung auf die Quintessenz, die ein Stück ausmacht. Zwischen 2012 und 2014 waren MAMAZA im Rahmen der Doppelpass-Förderung durch die Kulturstiftung des Bundes Artists in Residence am Mousonturm.
