GIGANTEN /// wie wir jagen

Performance

In “GIGANTEN /// wie wir jagen”, Janna Pinsker and Hanna Steinmair work on the Utopia of a Solo for Two. One body is not enough.

Janna Pinsker studies Choreography and Performance, Hanna Steinmair Applied Theatre Studies. In their second collaboration they explore the common communicability of these two approaches. The stage makes way for speculations of all kind, for different forms of making sense, one can laugh, one can wonder and not understand. One is together with others in this space and observes what becomes of „us“.

But we are not enough. This is why we perpetuate ourselves. We reach out and combine the fields marked by „ourselves“ in order to create shapes, in which the limitations of the individual are extended and the development of a shared narration becomes possible. If one can be many through language and gesture, which dishevel the body from its familiar connotations and assemble it anew, we want to introduce and play out different versions of this being many. We take up the question where the political potential of choreography emerges, when one body stands for others.

To feed the pet, put money into the stock market, listen to the radio, go on a trip, buy an apartment.

We play with affirming cultural symbols and turn this process into strategies for self-empowerment. Fragments from everyday life situations, chit-chat, slang and fantasy are repeated, carried to different contexts and assembled anew.

Say words. Repeat them. Grant names, grant things names. Being washed up.

Agents of these narrations are invoked, show themselves, show themselves to us, show something of us, fade in and out: field marshal Hillebrand, a horde of power-house-wifes controlling the stock market with their immaterial labour, Brookie Busen, a big game hunter, a specialist for decoding dance in music videos and many more. The stage becomes a habitat of unrecounted, impossible stories, to whom the performers make themselves available as points of origin and connection. Pinsker and Steinmair play continuously with the moment of transition, in which it stays unclear, who is taking up the narration, who is the agent and who ultimately represents whom.

What could have happened, was happened or is happening right now – maybe.
Today, we’ll play it as we want it.

GIGANTEN /// wie wir jagen discharges a gone-wild-language, occupies and redefines gestures and movements. Pinsker and Steinmair drop their re-coding onto the stage to find out what it is that sustains representations, what one is glued to and which sign language we need to create in order to put „ourselves“ back together differently.

To put yourself on the line. Only gamesmanship. Start the game.
