ALL IN/Theater

A war of generations in the house of Needcompany: Lisaboa Houbrechts unites the real Lauwers-Barkey theatre family on stage. Together, Grace Ellena Barkey, her son Victor and her daughter Romy Louise Lauwers portray Hamlet’s family and thus penetrate into the core of the original tragedy. The theatrical works of young director Lisaboa Houbrechts and the Belgian ensemble Kuiperskaai takes on classical theatre pieces, in order to get to the bottom of the motives and the dark depths of human nature with boldly spirited vigour. Their “Hamlet” approaches the familiar tragedy from a new, female perspective. It questions revenge, guilt, responsibility in the destructive relationships between the siblings Hamlet, Ophelia and their mother, Queen Gertrud, and “as a distinct adaption, boldly opens up new perspectives.” (De Morgen, Brussels)
