It takes a Village: Bar Mitzvah’d at Forty

Mousonturm Saal

Performance/Meal

On Sunday, the big party will be celebrated in the Mousonturm. In the style of a bar mitzvah celebration that should have taken place in the 1990s, Ariel invites us to a mixture of speeches and talks, music and dance, food and drink, party and ritual.

As performative hostesses, artists, in drag shows, performative essays or hymns to menopause, reflect together with Ashbel on the social role of (self-)transformation, of rites of passage and initiation.

Ashbel uses his Jewish perspective to look from the personal to countless facets of foreignness and diversity. His “life-specific” performance and bar mitzvah thus becomes a place for inclusive and intersectional encounters and makes the depth of the festival tangible in many of its dimensions.
