Until recently only know to insiders, the 25-year-old musician and composer is now considered a shooting star of European jazz. Norway’s Dagbladet called him the “most talented Norwegian saxophonist since Jan Gabarek”. And the Guardian wrote that here is a man on the best way to becoming one of the new greats of the (jazz) scene: Marius Neset. He captivates his listeners with labyrinthine compositions mixing elements of Stravinsky, Bach, Shostakovitch, Charles Ives, Steve Reich or Django Bates. His energetic creativity and breathtaking technique – for example, his ability to simultaneously intonate three melodies – produces speechless and astonished faces. Entertaining, while sophisticated, steeped in tradition, while being disrespectful in a good way, with a wicked sense of humour – as his concerts oscillate between all these elements, they are always full speed ahead!
Marius Neset (Saxophone), Ivo Neame (Piano), Petter Eldh (Bass), Anton Eger (Drums).
