As the final climax of the jazz festival, Kamaal Williams brings an electronic variation of London’s current crossover scene into the Saal of Mousonturm. Kamaal Williams is the name of Henry Wu’s current project. The London keyboarder, producer and DJ – now in his late twenties – originally played drums, before making a name for himself as a prodigy on the piano. In Josh McKenzie alias McKnasty, who has also played with Robert Glasper, the current trio has found an exceptionally fiery drummer. Bassist Pete Martin is best known as a member of Courtney Pine’s famous late 1990’s band. Kamaal Williams’ performances are driven by an enormous love of improvisation and almost telepathic mutual understanding. The musical influences range from Herbie Hancock and other famous 1970’s jazz funk musicians up to electronic underground genres such as Garage or Grime.
