“Can I kiss in a different language?”, sings Blix Bargeld at the end of Mi Scusi. “Who am I in another language? Do the metaphors come with me?” These are intimate questions and songs, which find common ground with experimental pieces. Blixa Bargeld recorded this unexpected album with film musician Teho Teardo. Still Smile is a stunning case of subtle instrumentation with rhythmic string sections by the Balanescu Quartet and cellist Martina Bertoni, minimal orchestra bells, electronic accents and Bargeld’s voice. Everything began at the theatre – the two artists first met in 2009 during preparations for the theatre piece Ingiuria and while working on the song Quit Life.
