Sebastian Schulz

Kummerkasten Menschenstadt

Mousonturm Saal

Glass roof, wooden façade, fully accessible and with room for two, a table, chairs and a microphone – choreographers Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz planted this life-size version of a complaint box in various public spaces in downtown Frankfurt last autumn and animated people passing by to speak with them: what is important to you? What makes you angry? What needs to change?
In animated, thoughtful or indignant conversations, numerous inhabitants of the 21st century aired their thoughts, world views and got contradictory demands off their chests. In Kummerkasten Menschenstadt, Billinger & Schulz now transport the Meckerbox with all its contents into the theatre and transform the stage into the  polyphonic echospace of a German metropolis. Now that which smoulders under the surface of the social choreography and buzzes around in people’s heads can come to light: important things, trivial things, personal and political things, simple, complex, random and absent-minded. Kummerkasten Menschenstadt gives the political desires and angry sorrow of the participating population a polyphonic body in dispute with itself.
