Over the past four years, METAhub has focussed on sites in Frankfurt. The Mapping Offenbach Lab is now looking beyond the city limits. In February 2024, the city of Offenbach and its Jewish history were explored. Together with digital artists, creative coders, AI and VR researchers and experts in digital remembrance culture, METAhub drew connections between locations in the Rhine-Main region for the first time: What still recognisably remains today of the places that were once architectural landmarks of Jewish participation in Offenbach’s urban society? Can experimental digital spaces and projects contribute to a politics of remembrance?

Vanessa Amoah Opoku, Gloria Schulz (Studio für unendliche Möglichkeiten), Ben Livne Weitzman, Creative Coder*innen, Designer*innen und Forscher*innen aus den Bereichen Architektur und Gestaltung von der Hochschule Mainz sind gemeinsam mit Michael Lenarz (Jüdisches Museum Frankfurt, Max Dienemann / Salomon Formstecher-Gesellschaft) und Jeanne Charlotte Vogt (NODE Verein zur Förderung Digitaler Kultur) diesen Fragen und haben Prototypen für digitale Anwendungen und Vermittlungsformate entwickelt, die nun vorgestellt und zum Ausprobieren bereitgestellt werden

So. 24.03. 3.00 pm
From Memory to Pixel Cloud

A conversation about site-specific digital interventions and formats in the region with presentation of the results of the Mapping Offenbach Lab

Can digital monuments and digital artistic interventions in public spaces contribute to a politics of remembrance? How can the memory of people, places and events be turned into data sets that can be used in educational formats? What is the significance of digitisation projects for collective memory, and how can a database be turned into appealing apps and websites for different target groups? Experts will discuss these questions with visitors in a presentation of digital projects – exhibition formats, reconstructions, artistic formats and apps – that have been created in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. Participants are cordially invited to also contribute their own projects!
