Marketplace 76

Mousonturm Saal

a critical mass/Dance/Theater

24 villagers die in a tragic accident, 7 of them children. The tragedy weighs heavily on the survivors. The memorial service commemorating the occasion brings the villagers back together again, but catastrophe strikes again, terrible things come to light. The Belgian artist Jan Lauwers personally takes to the stage as performer, jester and drifter in a story of a village and its inhabitants, who are sucked into a whirlpool of events, but heroically survive. Developed in collaboration with composers Rombout Willems, Maarten Seghers and Hans Petter Dahl, the piece glows in strong, but quietly nuanced colours. Marketplace 76 is a social experiment, a parable on an almost biblical scale, which touches on the darkest parts of human coexistence and nevertheless allows the community to emerge victorious.
