There is no messing around as soon as the virtuoso percussionists Yuka Ohta and Yu-Ling Chiu step up to their musical task. Together they occupy and play on a whole landscape of musical instruments. In the centre of this lies a unique, giant circular marimba, surrounded by drum kits, the setting for a garage band and a whole series of snare drums. The musicians cut through this general assembly of percussion both playfully and energetically. At the same time, it is the instruments themselves that seem to react powerfully to each other in a magical way. What can people combine sonically? Together with the composer Diego Ramos Rodríguez and the instrument maker Friedrich Hartung, the two directors of “Matter of Facts” Gregor Glogowski and Benjamin Hoesch have created a production that allows audiences to experience what keeps communities together and what it means to groove together.

„Matter of Facts” ist eine Produktion von Glogowski/Hoesch in Koproduktion mit dem Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main und dem Lichthof Theater Hamburg. Gefördert vom Musikfonds e. V. mit Projektmitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, durch das Hessische Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, durch das Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, sowie die Hamburgische Kulturstiftung und die GVL (Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten). Kompositionsauftrag finanziert durch die Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung.
„Matter of Facts – relocated”, die Umarbeitung der Inszenierung für den Sommerbau, wird gefördert vom Fonds Darstellende Künste aus Mitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
Biography
Glogowski/Hoesch
Gregor Glogowski und Benjamin Hoesch arbeiten seit 2016 als Duo zusammen, zwischen Frankfurt und Hamburg. In ihren Arbeiten entwickeln sie szenografische und installative Räume, verbinden Performance, Bildende Kunst und Sound-Art. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Schlagzeugerinnen Yuka Ohta und Yuling Chiu, der Tänzerin und Choreografin Kristina Veit, dem Komponisten Diego Ramos Rodríguez und dem Bühnenbildner und Instrumentenbauer Friedrich Hartung entwerfen sie überdimensionale Klangobjekte, automatische Bühnenmechanismen und arbeiten an den Möglichkeiten gemeinschaftlichen Handelns zwischen Musik, Tanz und Performance, Expertise und Dilettantismus, Präzision und Unberechenbarkeit. Ihre gemeinsamen Arbeiten wurden u.a. beim Radikal Jung Festival München, am Lichthof Theater Hamburg, am Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, beim Tonlagen-Festival Hellerau und beim World Stage Design Scenofest in Taiwan gezeigt.
