Inspired by the female characters in Homer’s epic The Odyssey, who all live in the shadows of the Trojan war, Lisbeth Gruwez developed the solo Penelope. Completely concentrated on her body and on simple circular movements, Gruwez created a remarkable image for the ambivalent state that Odysseus’ wife Penelope is in while she awaits his return. Everything seems to stand still, even though time passes. This hypnotic work by Lisbeth Gruwez finds a new form in a video installation.
