Who wants to be a princess when you’ve been a queen for centuries? Matriarchal societies still exist on every continent – except Europe. What past and present forms of co-existance are there, which do not contain the patriarchal Western narrative? And which future possibilities can be generated from these concepts of gender and family? “QUEENS” is an interdisciplinary and intersectional theatre piece that gets to the root of the issue. Simone Dede Ayivi’s afro-feminist performance builds a museum of stolen ideas to therein seek answers to the oldest questions we know: who are we? And how do we want to live?
