Eko Supriyanto is a smooth choreographer. He learned classical Javanese dance, studied modern and contemporary techniques and danced both for Madonna and theatre grandmaster Peter Sellars. In his own pieces, he combines the movement forms that left their mark on his biography into a unique style. Lately, he has often returned to the North Moluccan islands to work there. Not only is he fascinated by the movement traditions of this remote region, but also by its rich underwater worlds. After the enormous success of “Cry Jailolo” and “Balabala”, Supriyanto now returns to Frankfurt with the third piece that he developed in Jailolo. In this solo, he sets out to prove his very own personal theory of dance, whose future he sees underwater – as simultaneously weightless and powerful.
