“Our goal is to let the body listen. Set the audience in motion, set the musicians in motion. Until we are all swinging together”, is how Shabaka Hutching describes the quartet’s approach to jazz. The restless Londoner saxophonist has graced the stage with the likes of The Comet is Coming and Sons of Kemet. One of his many projects is the South African band The Ancestors. With them, he shares a profoundly deep vibe, hot on the heels of the spiritual jazz of Ayler and Coltrane. Hutchings’ ecstatic groove-jazz, which he calls “Afro Futurism”, also makes this genre interesting again for young audiences.
