frankfurt postkolonial

Stadtrundgang

in der Innenstadt Frankfurts

At the Mousonturm festival “im*possible bodies #2. An Attempted Deconstruction”, the frankfurt postcolonial initiative reported on colonial involvement, criticized institutions and presented a post-colonial map of Frankfurt, which included the Mousonturm’s colonial past. A new walk through the city now aims to encourage discussion about the history of colonialism and its effects up to the present day. In the case of Frankfurt am Main, historical and current references to the colonial are addressed in local form, in various places that demonstrates such references in exemplary fashion. These places should and cannot comprehensively illustrate and represent the space of the colonial in Frankfurt, for colonialism has manifested and manifests itself above all in power dynamics and structures. Instead, the places are meant as starting points to ask questions about the extent to which German society is still marked by colonialism, as well as to encourage resistance to and interventions into such continuities.
