The great musicality of Emanuel Gat’s works is truly captivating. By invitation of the Ensemble Modern, he is developing a very special piece at the Frankfurt LAB, bringing fifteen musicians and ten members of his dance company on stage in a piece, which premieres in July 2018 at the Festival d’Avignon at Cours d’honneur du Palais de Pape, before returning to Frankfurt as part of this year’s Tanzfestival Rhein-Main. The concept is unusual. One part of the choreography is being developed on the basis of finished scores by Pierre Boulez and Rebecca Saunders, while the other utilizes innovative an method: dancers and musicians create a musical-choreographic full score together, in which the gestures of sound generation and of dance merge – elegantly overstepping and dissolving established boundaries and responsibilities.

Emanuel Gat
Der israelische Choreograph Emanuel Gat wird regelmäßig zu den renommierten Tanzfestivals weltweit eingeladen. Bevor er mit 23 Jahren den Tanz für sich entdeckte, studierte er Musik. 2004 gründete er seine Kompanie Emanuel Gat Dance, die im französischen Istres beheimatet ist. Emanuel Gat wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet, u. a. mit dem Rosenblum Award for Performing Arts (2003), dem Landau-Preis (2004) sowie mit der Benennung zum Excellenz-Mitglied der Israelischen Kultur IcExcellence (2006). Die Kompanie Emanuel Gat Dance wurde 2005 vom Kulturministerium Israels für ihre herausragenden Tanzperformances mit dem Kulturpreis des Landes geehrt.

Ensemble Modern
Das Ensemble Modern, 1980 gegründet und seit 1985 in Frankfurt am Main beheimatet, ist eines der weltweit führenden Ensembles für Neue Musik. Derzeit vereint es 19 Solist:innen aus neun Ländern. Das Ensemble ist bekannt für seine einzigartige Arbeits- und Organisationsweise ohne künstlerischen Leiter und die unverwechselbare programmatische Bandbreite, die Musiktheater, Tanz- und Videoprojekte, Kammermusik, Ensemble- und Orchesterkonzerte umfasst. Regelmäßig tritt es in etwa 100 Konzerten weltweit bei renommierten Festivals und an herausragenden Spielstätten auf und erarbeitet etwa 70 Werke neu, davon 20 Uraufführungen.
