With rods, straps, cables, microphones and electromechanical hammers attached to their prepared grand piano, the Grandbrothers Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel create exciting contemporary piano music inspired by such experimental forefathers of the genre as John Cage and Steve Reich, just to name a few, as well as by newer electronic music. When Vogel adds effects and samples live to the sounds Sarp draws from the piano – when the hammers hit the strings and the wooden corpus and the mechanics therein in supplementary rhythms – the result is a technically, as well as visually astonishing interplay of inside and outside. As complicated as it may sound, this great mix of analogue and digital promises to be an ambitious, yet nevertheless chill listening experience carried along by cool rhythmic harmonies.
