As we learned in the first edition of the Financial Cocktail Club, whiskey sour is the drink of the day. By all means, hands off all East European, South American or even worse Greek liquors – much too instable economic climate! After a successful overhaul of the drink menu, video and performance artist Chris Kondek now invites you to attend the second edition of his stock market soap opera. This time it is about those dodgy promises that keep money and reality aligned. What is it about money that claims to be real? And how can virtual money in a very real way be made to disappear? As recently in the case of the online exchange market Mt GOX, which provided its customers with the sensational service of simply causing hundreds of millions of bitcoins to disappear into that sweet nothing, which had always been their only substance. But that is definitely not the only trick we have to help free ourselves from the burdens of money! PS: the first cocktail is on the house.

Biography
Chris Kondek
Chris Kondek (geboren 1962 in Boston, lebt in Berlin) arbeitet seit über 20 Jahren mit internationalen Künstlern und Kollektiven wie der Wooster Group (Beginn 1990), Laurie Anderson (Beginn 1995) und Meg Stuart (Beginn 1999), für deren Theaterstücke und Performances er zahlreiche Videoarbeiten schuf. 1999 übersiedelte Kondek von New York nach Berlin und beginnt die künstlerische Zusammenarbeit mit Armin Petras, Sebastian Baumgarten, Wanda Golonka, Hans-Werner Kroesinger, René Pollesch, Michael Nyman, Marianne Weems/The Builder’s Association, Jossi Wieler, Falk Richter, Stefan Kaegi und Stefan Pucher. Kondeks Videoarbeiten wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet (OPUS-Preis 2008, FAUST 2012 zusammen mit Barbara Ehnes). Seit 2004 entwickelt Chris Kondek eigene Theaterarbeiten, darunter die mehrfach ausgezeichnete Performance Dead Cat Bounce, in dem Performer live auf der Bühne mit den Eintrittsgeldern der Zuschauer spekulieren. Zusammen mit dem Schauspieler Matthias Breitenbach entwickelte Kondek 2011 am Mousonturm die Performance Even The Dead are Not Safe From The Living, die im Rahmen der Frankfurter Positionen uraufgeführt wurde. Für EVAKUIEREN widmet sich Kondek der Frage, ob angesichts der gesamtgesell-schaftlich immer weiter um sich greifenden Prekarisierung Künstler sich tatsächlich als weg-weisende Berater erweisen, um Perspektiven für ein Leben ohne Geld zu entwickeln. Seit 2014 veranstaltet Chris Kondek im Künstlerhaus Mousonturm die Reihe The Financial Cocktail Club.
