Romeo Castellucci

The Parthenon Metopes

Opelwerk Rüsselsheim

Performance

It begins with a moment of shock. There has been an accident or rather: an incident. It is unclear what exactly has happened. We see a person in pain. Seconds drag on into eternity until help rushes over. Italian artist Romeo Castellucci makes us observe other people’s suffering. We are transported into a parallel universe, in order to look back onto our own world – und find it altered. In 2013, Castellucci was awarded the Venice Biennale Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. He has “created a new language for the stage that interweaves theater, music and sculpture”. Like many of his pieces, The Parthenon Metopes is a sophisticated manipulation of art and reality, which confronts us with the big questions of humanity.
