Androids confused about their identities, all-devouring aliens or the Earth plagued by a global catastrophe: what’s actually frightening about such unlikely creatures and scenarios is the fact that they are based on things that are deeply familiar. In their new choreographed work “us hearing voices” Billinger & Schulz open up the dance stage to the “Unlikely Creatures” of the future. As in a sketchbook, they collect, blur and overlay visions from cinema, literature, science, architecture and music. In the process their large, intergenerational ensemble alternates between presenting the ideal image of a society to come and providing a surface for epic projections of those disturbing remnants, breaks and contradictions that have yet to find a place in contemporary images of the body and constructs of identity.
