Tonfunktion invites Budhaditya Chattopadhyay and TinTin Patrone, two of the artists commissioned by the festival, to talk about their approach to the utility aspect of music and sound. The dialogue with Mousonturm dramaturge and co-initiator of Tonfunktion Anna Wagner will focus not only on her working methods, but also on urban space as an acoustic archive and space for intervention.

Budhaditya Chattopadhyay
Budhaditya Chattopadhyay is an Indian artist and researcher based in the Netherlands. He uses sound, text, and image in multimedia works and publications to explore and document contemporary phenomena such as ecological and social change, migration, and decolonization. Chattopadhyay studied New Media at Aarhus University and received his PhD in Sound Studies from the Academy for Creative and Performing Arts in Leiden.

TinTin Patrone
TinTin Patrone is a German-Filipino composer, musician as well as performance and sound artist. TinTin Patrone founded the group Krachkisten Orchestra in 2009, the International MusicMotorcycleClub in 2012, while also runnning various parallel individual musical and artistic projects. The connections between music, art, sound and experimental gesture is the general field that TinTin Patrone is interested in. Many of her creations focus on the visual elements of music, the tension between conceptual ideas and physical existence, and the question of how we deal with music individually and as a society.
