Zola Jesus

(Merrill, Wisconsin)

Mousonturm Saal

Concert

Roaring synthesizers and pounding e-drums, minimalist carpets of sound with noise, wave and gothic elements – basically, Nika Roza Danilova alias Zola Jesus, American with Ukrainian roots, produces flawless pop music. As a child, she taught herself to sing opera. Today, the meanwhile 27-year-old enchants mainstream audiences with her expressive voice. She counts Joy Division and The Residents, but also Schopenhauer, Nietzsche or Dostoyevsky, among her most important influences – which is clearly audible in the nightshade music of her five already-released albums. Now, with her new album “Okovi” in tow, Zola Jesus comes to Frankfurt for the first time.
