“We are Markus&Markus. We are part of so-called German-German mainstream society. ZWISCHEN DEN SÄULEN documents our journey into Islam. People have always set out to explore “foreign” worlds in order to report home about them. In the 21st century, we no longer need to travel to Arabia to encounter Islam. We already have a clear image in our heads of what people, who we consider Muslim, look like. Yet the problem with these images, as with all clichés, is that they are incomplete. They make a story, the only story. What if we seek connection and similarities, instead of distinction and differences? ZWISCHEN DEN SÄULEN is the travelogue of a scavenger hunt. We follow clues provided by a director unknown to us. And in the process, we don’t explain the world, but rather move within it, between facts and fiction, between the status quo and utopia.”

Biography
Markus&Markus
Markus & Markus ist ein Theaterkollektiv aus Hildesheim. Ihre Aufführungen bewegen sich zwischen Neo-Agit-Prop, Dokumentartheater, Lecture Performance und Punkoper. Sie arbeiten mit Videoeinspielungen, recherchierten Texten, selbst generiertem Material und live vorbetragenen, unbearbeiteten Statements von BürgerInnen. Diese Materialien werden zu einer Collage, in der die Bühnensituation nahtlos mit der Realität verschmilzt. Dabei stehen Markus & Markus als Performer auf der Bühne selbst ein, sie greifen an und machen sich angreifbar.
