Frankfurter Schultheatertage 2013
More than 30 years ago, students from Frankfurt first took over the stages of Mousonturm. Now they return again (after a forced break due to renovations) to show us what moves them and how aptly they manoeuvre in the world as stage.
This year, a new concept has been created in close cooperation with the presenters – Landesverband Schultheater in Hessen e.V., Landesschulamt und Künstlerhaus Mousonturm – which allows the festival to more closely examine and explore those new and contemporary forms of theatre, which also make up the cornerstone of Mousonturm’s regular programme. For this reason, this years’ festival programme not only includes already well polished productions, but also (almost) every imaginable form of theatre produced on school stages, in gyms and classrooms: small formats, short pieces, but also dance theatre and work-in-progress presentations that demonstrate various pedagogical or artistic approaches, methods, respective “states of play” and allow for their discussion. Grade Schools Days, Work-in-Progress Days and additional workshops build bridges between school theatre companies and artists.
The new concept intensifies what the Schultheatertage (School Theatre Days) have represented right from the start: they are both a “showcase” for theatre projects by Frankfurt students, as well as a meeting place for a mutual exchange of experience between drama teachers, as a space for vocational training and quality development. Sarah Sorge, Head of the Department of Education and patron of the Schultheatertage writes: “Above all, I wish to express my respect for all those, who work to produce theatre in Frankfurt’s schools, because I know how much imagination, patience, willingness to experiment, endurance, creativity and frustration tolerance is necessary to face the long process of implementing a theatre project and successfully producing artistic work. I wish all groups, project teams and theatre classes, not matter whether they are merely performing at their school or also at the Schultheatertage, much success and a full house!“ What more is there to say?
