FREISCHWIMMER 2016/2017 20.-23.10.2016

Künstlerhaus Mousonturm is looking for artists seeking to implement a project idea for the next edition of the Freischwimmer Festival 2016/17 in co-production with the Mousonturm in Frankfurt.

The Freischwimmer Festival is co-curated and co-produced by the theatre and co-production venues Sophiensaele (Berlin), Forum Freies Theater (Dusseldorf), brut (Vienna), Gessnerallee Zurich and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm. From 2016 onwards, projects will be produced parallel in all five houses and then presented together during the Freischwimmer Festival. The festival will premiere in October 2016 in Zurich and then go on tour to all four other theatre venues in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Vienna and Frankfurt.

The Freischwimmer Festival promotes artists, who have already produced initial work outside of a training or education context and who are currently in the process of further developing their artistic signature. Both ideas for theatre spaces are welcome, as well as performance and installation formats such as sound pieces, interventions in the urban space, durational performances or happenings. There is no age limitation and no specified thematic motto. Instead, the festival is looking for contemporary artistic positions that allow spectators and visitors to experience in exemplary fashion the artistic and social potential of the performing arts based on challenging self-declared assignments and conceptual settings. As part of Freischwimmer, Mousonturm offers artists the chance to develop their project ideas in residency at the Künstlerhaus or at one of the other hosting venues. The Freischwimmer Festival emphasizes the implementation of sustainable production conditions and the creation of a professional framework for young talent. Networking and dialogue between individual artistic positions at different venues and their respective contexts, as well as with other artists involved in the festival is given great priority. Production-related support in terms of budget management and financing is also provided.

For the implementation and presentation of the projects in the five cities, spaces of various sizes are provided at all five theatres. In addition, projects can be implemented in close proximity to the venues or by utilizing the cityscape.
