The Tanzplattform Rhein Main invites you to experience a day full of ballroom culture with international stars from the scene at Mousonturm. The focus is on three workshops in the categories runway, MC (commentary) and voguing. After a talk about the origins of the Kiki scene, the educational work that went hand in hand with it and the safe space it created, there will be the Community Kiki Ball, where workshop participants and members of the community can express themselves in form of performance and dance and try out their newly learnt skills. This day serves as a safe space for queer, non-binary and trans* people of colour. We therefore wish to create an atmosphere in which participants can live out the different facets of their gender identity in an artistic way.
Ballroom is a subculture founded in the 60s/70s in the USA by the queer, Latinx and black community. The ballroom scene acts as a safe space for queer people of colour, which aims to be free from racism, transphobia, homophobia and other types of discrimination. This safe space is also particularly important here in Germany, as queer BIPoC are exposed to racism and discrimination in addition to queer hostility in their migrant communities. The "Balls" are therefore seen as a space to express one's own gender identity and sexuality free from racism.
The talk and the ball are ONLY for participants of the preceding workshops and are free of charge for them.
