Movement choirs are a staple in the visionary legacy of recent dance history. First emerging in the 1920’s, they are an expression of an emancipatory alliance between labourers and artists: How can the body of human beings, freed from their everyday constraints, be set into motion together as a choric organised group? In DANCE FOR ALL, the artist group LIGNA renews this artistic utopia by hosting a collective self-experiment on Frankfurt’s Römerberg as opening of the festival. LIGNA calls its choreographies, which are always conveyed and coordinated via individual radio receivers, “radio ballets”. Developed for a variety of spaces, they play with the predominant rules of the space being used in order to critically question them in execution.
