In Act and Thought – a score for six performers

Fabrice Mazliah

If you could talk to dancers during a performance, what would you say to them? How can the knowledge and experience of this special community of people be shared with an audience and simultaneously develop into something new?
In Fabrice Mazliah’s “In Act and Thought”, dancers connect their mov ments on stage with language – they specify, contrast, develop details into complex actions or formulate new ideas through movements and words.
The Forsythe Company took their leave last year with this piece. As open- ing piece of this year’s Architecture Biennale, Fabrice Mazliah has created a new version of the piece for six former company dancers, which met with enthusiastic responses in Venice and will be shown for the first time in Frankfurt at the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main.
Mazliah was a dancer for the Nederlands Dans Theater, before joining William Forsythe’s company. He began creating projects of his own in 1998, e.g. as a member of the choreographer collective MAMAZA. His work is presented on a regular basis at Mousonturm and at festivals and theatre venues across Europe.
