Philippe Quesne creates landscapes and habitats for his pieces within theatre spaces. The set designs come first, the micro-worlds and biotopes: a cultural centre in a swamp, a molehill housing a band, a ratty amusement park. For his next theatre adventure, the French artist and his wonderful, heart-warmingly bizarre collaborators (most recently at Mousonturm with “Welcome to Caveland”) explore life on a lonely island with a crash-landed airplane and a marauding group of survivors. Quesne has dreamed up a musical adventure show with a large airplane wreck on the beach, a fire-spewing volcano in the middle, a revolving stage amidst an ocean of possibilities and surprises. “Crash Park” premieres in November 2018 at Quesne’s own Théâtre des Amandiers-Nanterre and then comes to Frankfurt in June 2019.
