How free is art? - How free are programmers?

Ensemble Modern

Kunst und Kultur in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher Umbrüche

Ensemble Modern's discursive concert series "How free is art?" is dedicated to artistic freedom and its limitations. Together with experts from various disciplines, the programme examines just how free and independent art today can be in times of social upheaval and challenges. The central questions are: What is art allowed to do? Where do its limits lie? What responsibility does it bear? And how untouchable is the right to artistic freedom? These pressing cultural and socio-political questions are explored in moderated discussions and performances of fitting musical compositions. The series approaches the topic from the perspectives of programmers, ensembles and composers. The event series will take place in Frankfurt am Main and in Cologne.
