Relational Dynamics in Apocalyptic Times
Using improvisation practices, and tools from contact improvisation we will consider how dance connects to larger political questions and perspectives drawn from Queer Theory and Ecofeminism. From the radically humorous to the philosophical, we will look for ways of dancing in relation, and consider how dancing allows us to embody and engage with ways of being outside the norm as a radical proposition for other ways of being in and with the world. Tools will be drawn from Laura’s choreographic work with Ilana Reynolds, as well as her 22 years of research in contact improvisation. As always, Laura’s professional training will give time to shifting state, encouraging sensory mapping and awareness of the haptic body, while incorporating strength training and functional efficiency. The class will involve individual warming up and plenty of space to meet your own needs.
