Pepe Dayaw, choreographer, performer, and visual artist, invites to an extraordinary cooking and performance experience that offers unexpected perspectives on Philippine culture and life in migration.
After studying in Europe, Pepe began in Madrid and later in Berlin the practice of “cooking with leftovers,” a form of performance art that started in private kitchens and later traveled with Pepe to theaters and cultural institutions around the world. This long-term project, situated between art and life, is deeply shaped by Pepe’s biography and simultaneously reflects the lived realities of Philippine migrants, whose creativity in navigating precarious situations is nearly legendary.

In this unique workshop, which combines cooking and storytelling, Pepe guides participants through the labors, languages, and rituals of the culinary—understood as languages of movement beyond recipe comfort zones and the fetishization of national identities. The workshop creates at the same time a space of remembrance for the many unsung and unidentified cooks that feed colonialism.

Participants are invited to bring ‘leftovers’ from home. Everything will be incorporated into one common and yet to be known pot/dish. The outcome of the workshop will form part of a performance led by Pepe Dayaw that will mark a solemn opening to the glamorous Fiesta that evening at 9 p.m. at the Mousonturm.
