This training will explore the principles of gravity, groundedness, and flow while moving us through acrobatic elements. Inspired by Flying Low, we will use spirals to move in and out of the floor, while contracting and expanding the whole body or different parts of it to create smooth pathways. Using our experience with Release Techniques, we will approach acrobatic elements like lifts, balances, handstands and aerial jumps, to introduce dynamics and risk-taking, while also working with gravity, momentum, and falling to aid in our exploration of flow. We will also work with some Capoeira elements, to bring playfulness and awareness of each other in space while moving.

Biography
Laura Ahumada García is a South American performer, maker, site-specific artist, and educator based in Frankfurt. She works at the intersection of dance pedagogy, decolonial perspectives, and access, exploring how embodied practices create spaces of belonging, co-learning, and change. She views the body as a living archive shaped by cultural memory and socio-political forces. She holds an MA CoDE from HfMDK Frankfurt and has taught professional-level dance and led workshops across Europe, including at Ponderosa, Tanzfabrik, Dock 11, Produktionszentrum, London Contemporary Dance School, Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, TanzWerk Kassel, and the dance company in Heidelberg. She currently teaches Capoeira in the dance department at HfMDK, bringing movement, rhythm, and Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage into her pedagogy as practices of resistance, joy, and communal learning.
Q & A
1. What makes this training a training for dance professionals? Or put another way - what skills or practices are we doing that support our position as professionals in the freelancer scene in Frankfurt?
The training is created for dancers who have done similar practices and for those who are comfortable being in a physical and dynamic training.
2. Is this an improvisation training, a training where we learn phrases, or both?
The training invites dancers to explore a wider range of movements, expression as well as enhance strength, flexibility and body awareness, allowing dancers to find their own fluidity in their movements, through improvisation tasks and set material.
