With Continuum XXI, the IEMA Ensemble 2025/26 invites an ensemble that is dedicated to early and contemporary music played exclusively on historical instruments, thus connecting both worlds. Georg Friedrich Haas' “tria ex uno” is a modern classic that opens the program. Alberto Arroyo's work “collapse” is a metaphor for collapse: poetic, sensual surfaces develop into a tumbling collapse of sound. Eloain Lovis Hübner's “crunch modes”, inspired by current political events, social conflicts, and environmental disasters, approaches the dystopian sensibilities of our time. Electronic means create moments of unpredictability within a thoroughly composed structure. The two world premieres by this year's IEMA composer Haotian Yu and Spanish composer Diego Ramos Rodríguez are dedicated to the festival theme “Swarming.”
