Tanita Tikaram was just 18 years old when her life was turned completely upside down. The reason: her debut album “Ancient Heart”, which took the world by storm in 1988. Her distinctive voice and raw, unfiltered lyrics, in which the German-born Briton recounts the inner turmoil of a young, queer person of colour who feels like a stranger in her own homeland, ensured lasting interest from fans and critics alike – her hit “Twist In My Sobriety” has been streamed over 81 million times to date. Almost four decades later, the singer-songwriter has released many more albums and songs; with “LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)”, she celebrated her big comeback last October. By drawing on “Ancient Heart”, Tanita Tikaram’s new album marks a full-circle moment in her discography, for just as in the 80s and 90s, politics and society today ensure that she once again feels like a stranger in her own country. “LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)” is dedicated to precisely this feeling and calls for community and a better future. After six years, Tanita Tikaram is going on tour again for the first time – accompanied by a chamber orchestra who will conjure up a very special atmosphere in the Palmengarten.
