Human relations are modes of being in the world. Several of Eszter Salamon’s works focus on female subjectivities, feminist genealogies, and multi-generational relationships. M/OTHERS explores the mother-daughter relationship. Through modalities of action, feeling and perception, it opens an inter-subjective time, giving birth to a singular space with traces and states of conjoining. This is the second time the artist has asked her mother to perform with her. The duet between them occasions empathy, care, and compassion, and through sensual attention, it experiments with a poetic weaving of oscillating meaning. Such a cohabitation and constant reconfiguration of their bodies’ entanglement becomes a process of undoing-redoing identity, creating a moment of ‘co-emergence’: being and being with, and witnessing the time-space beyond identity.

Mothers & Daughters addresses transgenerational relations and explores practices of care for new ways of composing with empathy, intimacy, and feminist genealogies. Breaking with a supposedly ‘natural’ female bond or the assumed intimacy between mothers and daughters, this work invests the social and cultural relationships as a choreographic and emancipatory space. How can a choreographic approach of mothering and daughtering resonate with both personal and collective emotions and imagination? How does the work shed importance on shared transgenerational experiences and allow viewers to deeply connect to their own experiences and practices of care?

„The Lesser Told Story“ ist eine Aufforderung zur Begegnung. Das Festivalformat lädt vier herausragende Künstler*innen, Geschichtenerzähler*innen und Performer*innen dazu ein, etwas Neues auszuprobieren: Statt eine fertige Performance zu zeigen, begeben sie sich auf die Suche nach den eigenen verborgenen, bisher unerzählten Geschichten. Diese können mit oder ohne Sprache funktionieren – über Bewegung, Tanz, Poesie oder Beziehungen.
- Die Begründerin des postmodernen Tanzes Deborah Hay zeigt ihre neueste Arbeit „Performance Club“ – eine Performance, die sich im Laufe von neun Tagen jeden Abend auf ein Neues entfaltet und die Grenzen zwischen Performerin und Publikum, zwischen Kunst und Leben, verschwimmen lässt.
- Der Choreograf Faustin Linyekula begibt sich mit einer 75-jährigen ehemaligen Tänzerin auf Spurensuche zum ersten Ballett National in Zaire.
- Choreografin Eszter Salamon widmet sich in einem Duett mit ihrer Mutter Erzsébet Gyarmati erneut ihrer lang angelegten Recherche zur Beziehung zwischen Müttern und Töchtern.
- Autor und Performer Tim Etchells (Forced Entertainment) öffnet seine Schreibpraxis für Publikum und lädt zu einer Reflexion darüber ein, wie sich ein Leben erzählen lässt.
